Ignorance

“If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.”

Robert Orben

“Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation.”

Walter Cronkite

“The only victories which leave no regret are those which are gained over ignorance.”

 Napoleon Bonaparte

Ignorance is dangerous. It is a great loss. Being ignorant is a choice, a painful one that makes you lose opportunities, people you love and your life.

Making the decision to be disinterested in some aspects of life can put you in a difficult and undesirable position.

Knowledge is power. Reading every day, searching for information that you need, having an open mind, being curious about what you love, being interested in everything and asking good questions can really change your life.

Nobody wants to have an ignorant partner, parent or friend. You can’t help other people when you refuse to learn, you can’t become a better you when you don’t know yourself. The world goes on without you but you lose opportunities to grow and to make your dreams come true.

In any given moment you have the chance to choose curiosity over indifference, action over procrastionation and life over ignorance.

“It’s a fact—everyone is ignorant in some way or another. Ignorance is our deepest secret. And it is one of the scariest things out there, because those of us who are most ignorant are also the ones who often don’t know it or don’t want to admit it.
Here is a quick test: If you have never changed your mind about some fundamental tenet of your belief, if you have never questioned the basics, and if you have no wish to do so, then you are likely ignorant.
Before it is too late, go out there and find someone who, in your opinion, believes, assumes, or considers certain things very strongly and very differently from you, and just have a basic honest conversation. It will do both of you good.”

Vera Nazarian

A life worth reading

For my whole life, my favorite activity was reading. It’s not the most social pastime.

                                                                                       Audrey Hepburn

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more things that you learn, the more places you will go.

Dr. Seuss

Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.

Frederick Douglass

It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it

Oscar Wilde

Books are the quietest and most constant of friends. They are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers

 Charles William Eliot

Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.

 Anna Quindlen

The best moments in reading are when you come across something – a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things – which you had thought special and particular to you. Now here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out and taken yours.

Alan Bennett

People can lose their lives in libraries. They ought to be warned.

Saul Bellow

Reading is a powerful gift.

It can change your life forever.

It is the antidote to ignorance and your ticket to freedom.

Read as much as you can and your world will never be the same.

Read, read, read…
